He had spent every afternoon here at the retirement home for the past five months. At first it was a way to volunteer his time for a good cause. Then it became something else.

He found that these people had essentially been relegated by their families, society, and everyone else to just live on their own with a little assistance from others for their basic necessities and existence.

They all had some of the most fascinating stories, had lived lives that were full of adventure and glory, woo and wonder. And here they sat in the late morning for their lunch, regaling each other with stories of long ago.

Nancy reminded all the men present of how she had been wined and dined in her “prime” by the likes of Burt Reynolds, Frank Sinatra, Robert Redford, and Michael Caine.

With nearly every male seated at this table an eligible bachelor, this was her way of establishing her boundaries as a woman of distinct taste and of high value. She certainly seemed to be the one who quickly drew men’s attention towards her.

She was like Sophia Loren in her ageless beauty and charm, though her looks were quite different. Her hair had gone completely white a few decades ago, yet her dark skin and complexion seemed to show the effects of some fountain of youth she had partaken in at some point in her life.
